Frequently Asked Questions
Which tax regime should I choose, New or Old?
The New Regime generally works out cheaper if you don't claim many deductions (like 80C investments, HRA, or home loan interest). The Old Regime can be better if your eligible deductions are large. Use this calculator to compare both by switching the "Tax Regime" dropdown with the same income.
Is income up to Rs. 12 lakh really tax-free under the New Regime?
Yes, for FY 2025-26, taxable income up to Rs. 12 lakh (Rs. 12.75 lakh for salaried individuals after the Rs. 75,000 standard deduction) attracts zero net tax due to the Section 87A rebate of up to Rs. 60,000.
Does this calculator include surcharge?
No. Surcharge applies only above Rs. 50 lakh income and is not included here. For income below that threshold, the figures shown are accurate estimates including the 4% Health & Education Cess.
