Formula and calculation method
Growth for m months = (1 + annual nominal rate/100/frequency)^(frequency × m/12). FD maturity = principal × growth(term). RD maturity adds the grown value of each monthly deposit to the common term end. Beginning-month deposits earn one month more than end-month deposits.
Worked example
At 0% for 12 months, ₹1,00,000 FD remains ₹1,00,000 and ₹5,000 monthly RD totals ₹60,000. At 12% nominal with monthly compounding for 12 months, ₹1,00,000 FD grows to about ₹1,12,682.50. Deposit timing changes RD interest, not the deposited amount.
Assumptions and limitations
This is an equal-period mathematical model, not a bank quote. Fractional compounding periods use equivalent growth; actual bank day-count rules, RD formulas, rate changes, missed instalments and rounding may differ. Tax, early-withdrawal penalties and deposit protection are not calculated.
