Formula and calculation method

With monthly rate i = annual nominal rate/1,200 and n months, monthly saving = max(0, (target − existing × (1+i)^n) × i ÷ ((1+i)^n − 1)). At zero rate, monthly saving = max(0, target − existing) ÷ n. Contributions occur at month-end.

Worked example

Target ₹60,000, existing savings ₹12,000, 12 months and 0% return require ₹4,000 each month. If existing savings already reach the target under the assumptions, the required additional monthly amount is zero.

Assumptions and limitations

The return is an assumption, not a forecast or guarantee. The annual nominal rate is divided by 12; it is not an effective annual yield input. Deposits are at month-end, with constant monthly growth. Tax, fees, inflation and withdrawals are excluded.
